Buster Fayte’s ‘Hoguera Noche’ Review
We have been fortunate enough to have our debut single ‘Hoguera Noche’ reviewed by the fantastic Buster Fayte of Rockabilly Romp. Big thanks goes to Buster Fayte and you can read his kind words on our little tune below.
How About A Little Punkabilly To Start Your Week
Well, it seems I always get myself into a bit of trouble when I veer too far off of the rockabilly genre, but why not live dangerously? So here’s fair warning: this post is not about traditional rockabilly!
The Curse of Mary Sue, a band out of Sydney, Australia, dropped me a line today. (I really enjoy hearing from you bands and musicians!) The band wanted to tell us about their new single, “Hoguera Noche.” And they weren’t trying to pull anything over on me either. They told me right out that they’re not a rockabilly band. But, they said, rockabilly is one of their biggest influences. They also say they wanted “to move away from the plastic pseudo-perfection of modern pop-rock” and that’s a sentiment you and I can probably agree on even if we’re not totally into their style of music. They deserve a listen if just for that statement!
I’m always interested to hear what has grown, and what continues to grow, out of rockabilly. “Hoguera Noche” is an aggressive rock tune. As I said, it’s certainly not rockabilly and it’s not psychobilly–punkabilly describes it pretty well. It’s not really the kind of music I go seeking out, but again, I’m always interested and willing to give a listen. I think it’s a pretty cool single, and if you’re up for a bit of a break from rockabilly, I think you’ll enjoy it. You can check it out on The Curse Of Mary Sue Reverb Nation page and if you like what you hear, they’re offering it as a free download. So what do you have to lose? Go give it a listen!
Thanks, Elanor, for getting in touch!
